Over the past weekend, Hollywood's latest releases failed to make a significant impact at the box office, with many new films being overshadowed by ongoing holdover hits. Titles like "Collateral Damage," "Queen of the Damned," "The Count of Monte Cristo," and "Hart’s War" struggled to attract audiences, illustrating the dominance of earlier successes.

Meanwhile, "Ice Age" continued its impressive run, maintaining strong performance across various markets. It earned approximately $12.5 million from 3,455 screens in 31 countries, pushing its worldwide total to over $80 million. Notably, Germany contributed $21.6 million despite a 20% dip, keeping the film as the top grosser in its third week there. Mexico added $16.2 million, experiencing a 25% decline, while the UK contributed $14.1 million, down 14%, in its third week.

"Monsters, Inc." also posted solid numbers, grossing $7.8 million from 3,143 screens in 25 nations, bringing its global tally to approximately $487 million. It surpassed "Toy Story 2" to become Disney’s third-highest animated film ever. Japan led with $52.3 million, and France added $8.8 million, demonstrating ongoing appeal in key territories.

Looking at major franchises, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" reached an international total of $518 million, bolstered by Japan’s $48.4 million. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" climbed even higher, crossing $640 million worldwide. "Ocean’s Eleven" also performed well, accumulating $256.5 million, with Warner Bros. celebrating its second-highest UK gross of $34.1 million and strong European results, trailing only behind "Harry Potter" and "The Bodyguard." Poland contributed over $280,000 to its tally, nearly doubling the earnings of "Erin Brockovich."

" A Beautiful Mind" crossed the $100 million mark globally, aided by its four Oscar wins. Its success was evident across markets such as Japan ($4.9 million in nine days), Italy ($11 million), the UK ($9.5 million), Germany ($9.2 million), Spain ($8.6 million), and Australia ($8.2 million).

"Collateral Damage" underperformed in the UK, earning just $626,000 from 270 screens, although Arnold Schwarzenegger maintained a strong following in Russia, with an opening of $342,000 from 56 screens. Warner Bros.' "Blade II" stayed at the top in the UK with $7.9 million after 10 days despite a typical decline, and also led in Singapore with $214,000 from 30 screens.

"Queen of the Damned" had a modest debut in Germany, earning $689,000 on 493 screens, but performed better in Australia, where it made $834,000 on 164 screens. "Not Another Teen Movie" resonated with German teens, earning $1.7 million on 500 screens, though its international reach remains limited, with Australia contributing $2.3 million during its third week.

The rerelease of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" drew modest interest in France, earning $642,000 on 399 screens, and even less in Belgium. However, it retained popularity in Taiwan and Korea, with respective earnings of $432,000 on 51 screens and $457,000 on 61. Spielberg’s classic saw a 34% decline in Mexico but still pulled in $2.5 million over ten days.

In terms of sustained performance, some films held steady in their second week internationally. "E.T." earned around $2 million in the UK, $1.4 million in Spain, and $659,000 in Hong Kong, though it struggled in Germany with just $940,000. After 12 days, the film's international gross reached approximately $12.5 million from 2,623 prints across 21 markets.

"The Count of Monte Cristo" failed to make a strong impression in Spain, earning $560,000 from 225 screens, while "Hart’s War" underperformed with only $212,000 from 60 screens in its debut territory, Taiwan.
